My darling is a dancer and nightly we go
Stepping it out together lightly, toe to toe.
My darling is a singing bird, a neat Jenny-wren
And all her little warbling makes me sing again.

There are men who come to see me: they got mohair overcoats and Aqua Velva smiles.
In their ears there are maggots. In their inside pockets there are crocodiles.

Oh my darling is a juniper, a clean little tree;
Beneath her fragrant foliage she sweetens me.
Oh my lady is a dancer and nightly we skip,
Stepping it out together lightly, hip to hip.

There are men who come to see me: they got nice conversation; they got barbed-wire souls.
With bunched-up fists and buttocks clenched, their fingers up my buttonholes.

Oh my darling is a fountain, a clear little stream,
And in her lucid waters I am clean.
Oh my lady is a dancer and nightly we fly
Stepping it out together lightly, thigh to thigh.
La la la la la la li la li
Stepping it out together lightly, thigh to thigh.
